Orthodontic Evaluation for Kids
An orthodontic evaluation is a simple visit where we assess how your child's teeth, jaws, and bite are developing. We look for crowding, spacing, bite problems, and habits like thumb-sucking that can affect how adult teeth come in.
About Orthodontic Evaluations
No referral is needed. Many parents book an evaluation after noticing crooked teeth, or at their dentist's suggestion.

The Right Time to Start
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. By then, enough adult teeth have come in to spot developing problems, and treating some issues early can shorten or simplify treatment later.
Treatment Options for Growing Smiles
If treatment makes sense, we'll walk you through the options and the timing. Depending on your child's needs, that may include:
- Braces for kids and teens
- Early (interceptive) treatment to guide jaw growth
- Space maintainers after early tooth loss
- Simply monitoring growth until the timing is right

Frequently Asked Questions
At what age should a child have their first orthodontic evaluation?
By age 7, per the American Association of Orthodontists. That doesn't mean treatment starts then (most kids are simply monitored), but it lets us catch bite and crowding issues at the easiest time to guide growth.
When do kids typically get braces?
Most kids get braces between ages 9 and 14, once most of their adult teeth have come in. Some children benefit from an earlier phase of treatment to correct jaw growth or make room for incoming teeth.
How much do braces for kids cost?
Costs vary with the type of braces and the length of treatment; traditional braces for kids commonly range from about $3,000 to $7,000. After your child's evaluation, we'll give you a detailed estimate before any treatment begins.
Does dental insurance cover braces for children?
Many dental plans include partial orthodontic coverage for children, often with a lifetime maximum. Our team will check your benefits and explain your out-of-pocket costs and payment options up front.
